Fair use

The licence says what you may do with an animation. This page says what counts as reasonable use of the catalogue itself — the site, its pages and the assets it serves. It exists so that the answer to “is this alright?” is written down rather than improvised.

Taking animations

Take as many as your work needs. There is no quota, no per-seat count and no limit on how many projects they appear in. Copying twenty entries for one design system is ordinary use.

Automated access

Reasonable:

• fetching pages to read them, at the pace a person reads;
• a script that pulls the handful of animations your project uses;
• search engine crawling within the limits of the robots file.

Not reasonable:

• bulk downloading the catalogue, or a substantial part of it, whether or not you intend to republish it;
• request rates that degrade the site for others — as a rule of thumb, more than one request a second sustained;
• circumventing rate limiting, or disguising automated traffic as a browser.

If you want a bulk copy, ask. There is usually a better answer than scraping, and it is rarely a refusal.

Hotlinking

Do not serve assets to your users directly from this site. The animations are a few kilobytes each and are meant to be copied into your own project, where you control caching and availability. Embedding our URLs makes your site depend on ours.

Machine learning

Using the catalogue as training data for a generative model is outside both fair use and the licence. This is a catalogue of drawings; a model trained to reproduce them competes with the thing it was trained on.

If use is unreasonable

Business Nebula may rate limit or block traffic that is degrading the site, generally without warning where it is urgent, and will restore access once the cause is resolved. Persistent or deliberate abuse may end the licence.

Asking

Nothing here is intended to catch someone out. If you are unsure whether what you want to do is reasonable, ask first.
